Winter stories put on play by each of these passionate men
2PM Beast Idols 2PM released their 7th single “Winter Games” in October. The theme is an image these passionate men haven’t had before: “winter.” What kind of winters have they been through, and what kind of thoughts do they have about the winter season? They individually talked to us about their sad memories of loved ones to what winter songs they like.

TAECYEON
Q. Do you like winter?
I love it. Because there are no bugs (laugh). I also like snow, and I was born in winter.
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
When I was a kid, I lived in America and it would snow heavily in the town I lived in. The snow would pile up on the roadway in front of my house and it was my job to shovel the snow. It was really difficult, but on the 5th year after we moved there, my parents bought me an automatic snow shoveling machine. It made me rather happy!
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
I filmed the drama “Dream High” in the midst of winter, and on my birthday on December 27, there was filming until 4 in the morning. Therefore the temperature only went up to minus 18 degrees celsius! The scene I was filming at the time was when I was reading a newspaper article in relation to my dad, but it was so, so cold that I couldn’t open up the newspaper, no matter how many times I tried to go back and fix it. Just thinking about it now makes me cold (laugh).
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
I definitely want her to wear a muffler! Also, I didn’t used to like Mouton boots, but while I was filming “Dream High” I learned that wearing Mouton boots makes you warm so I have come to understand their use (laugh).
Q. Is there a memory you have of a loved one when it becomes winter?
It’s troublesome if you don’t have a place to go to in winter since it’s cold, so I have tons of those kinds of memories. One time, I thought it would be romantic to go to the beach in winter, but all I remember is that it was cold.
Q. What kind of winter date do you want to try?
I want to try going to a ski resort. If she slips, then I’ll teach her!
Q. How would you warm up the person you like if they were shivering?
If I’m wearing a coat, I would wrap her up in it and hold her tight! I believe it’s possible since I have a big body. However if she’s also tall, I can’t do it, I guess…….
Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
I listened to “Lovers Again” by EXILE last winter a lot. The melody is heartrending and really suits winter. Last year, I listened to it the whole time on the way to Otaru for work. It really suited the beautiful snowy scenery of the town Otaru.

WOOYOUNG
Q. Do you like winter?
I like summer more, but I also like snowy winter days. Since it heightens my sensitivity, I like to take a walk through the snow, too.
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
Christmas while I was still a trainee. Since I had just come from my home town of Busan, I didn’t really have aquaintances. I thought I would be spending it lonely all by myself, but Jun.K invited me out saying, “Let’s go to a good taco place.” The only customers were us two men though (laugh). I was happy thinking, “He really took me into consideration.”
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
It was snowing heavily on Christmas Eve when my girlfriend at the time suddenly told me she wanted to break up with me……. I’ll never forget how I trudged back home by myself in the snow (tear). Her talk of breaking up really shocked me. According to her the reason was “our personalities are different”…….
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
When she wraps a big muffler around her, covering about half of her face. I like mysteriousness.
Q. Is there a memory you have of a loved one when it becomes winter?
On the first snowy day of the year when the snow piles up, I was in the garden in front of the house and wrote the name of the girl I liked at the time [in the snow] and drew a heart, then wrote my own name beside it and took a picture and sent it to her. However I became embarrassed and quickly erased it. What was her reply? There wasn’t one……. It seemed like I was the only one who was into it.
Q. What kind of winter date do you want to try?
Do you know of Jeongdongjin? It’s a beach on the east coast of South Korea that’s a popular spot to go and see the first sunrise of the New Year. I want to go there on a date someday.
Q. How would you warm up the person you like if they were shivering?
I would make warm tea for her. I want to choose a cute thermos and put the tea in there and give it to her as a present.
Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
A lot of peaceful piano songs. I especially like Joe Hisaishi’s “Howl’s Moving Castle” and always listen to it in the winter.

JUN.K
Q. Do you like winter?
I love it! Because it’s romantic. There are a lot of Christmas events and even though it’s cold, it’s a season that warms your heart.
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
Watching smoke billow up from the chimneys with friends, making snowmen, snowball fights, Christmas……. The twelfth month of the year is a busy time when everyone looks cheerful buying presents and such. I become flustered just by recalling and talking about memories of winter.
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
A memory of breaking up, for sure. It seems that some people come to dislike winter because of such memories. However, dating and breaking up is just a part of life…….
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
I like girls who fashionably dress up in loose, short-length sweatshirts with a street-like feel. Pairing it with a woollen hat is nice, too. I think this type of girly fashion is cute.
Q. Is there a memory you have of a loved one when it becomes winter?
When I was in the second grade of high school, I saved up money and bought 300 candles. I lined them up at the place we we’re going to meet up at for Christmas Eve and had a bear plush with her name initialed on it and an ice cream cake with her name on it, and stood in the middle of it all. She was of course extremely pleased.
Q. What kind of winter date do you want to try?
In preparation for Christmas, I want to make pancakes with my girlfriend. Are pancakes my specialty? I’ve never made them before (laugh).
Q. How would you warm up the person you like if they were shivering?
I would gently enclose my arms around her from behind. Very gently.
Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
Ashanti’s “Christmas Time Again.” I like how the track called “The Christmas” possesses both a warm feel and a melancholy feel.

CHANSUNG
Q. Do you like winter?
SInce I was born in winter on February 11, I like it. ……However, I only say that until the actual day (laugh).
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
I remember when I was a kid I liked the snow and would make snowmen with my older brother. I don’t often see my brother nowadays, though.
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
When I was in the first year of middle school, I went to a ski resort with my uncle. When he asked me, “Do you want to ski or snowboard?” I answered, “I want to snowboard,” and I thought he would surely teach me how, but he left saying, “Then go ahead.” Since I was a kid I couldn’t say “I can’t” so I started gliding around by myself since there was nothing else I could do…….
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
I don’t know why, but my heart flutters whenever I see a girl wearing a long coat. Any color or shape is fine. As long as it’s long.
Q. Is there a memory you have of a loved one when it becomes winter?
I can’t remember anything. I don’t want to hide it, there just isn’t anything……, I’m sorry.
Q. What kind of winter date do you want to try?
I want to try going to the beach in winter. About 2 years ago, I went to a beach in Busan with Junho and 2AM Seulong, but since it was a sunny autumn day with nice weather, it was amazingly beautiful. The reflection of the sun glittered on the sea, looking like gems. Therefore, I want to go with a girl someday (laugh).
Q. How would you warm up the person you like if they were shivering?
I would take my coat off and give it to her. I think I could handle being without a coat for about 3 minutes. If it’s for more than 3 minutes……, I would run so I don’t get cold!
Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
Kim Bumsoo’s “fine.” It’s a song that perfectly matches a snowy day. I also like Eric Benet’s “Last Time” and Brian McKnight’s “Home.” In the winter I listen to those songs around the clock. Ah, but of course I don’t listen to them during work

JUNHO
Q. Do you like winter?
When it’s hot you have to take off your clothes but when it’s cold you can wear a lot of clothes and still be cold. Honestly, I like spring and fall the most. ……However, everyone probably thinks the same (laugh).
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
Since my birthday is in winter, I have a lot of warm memories. Last year there was a concert in Nagoya on my birthday, and all the fans simultaneously changed their penlights to my color, yellow, in order to congratulate me. That made me really happy~
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
I happened to pass by the front of a Christmas tree in town and and became lonely upon seeing a happy looking couple in front of it……. I changed the plans I had and went straight back home. However, if I see a couple like that in summer it lifts my spirits.
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
For summer I like girls who wear jeans with a white T-shirt, but for winter I like the sort of style where she wears a leather jacket over the shirt. Furthermore, leggings with a baggy knit sweater is also an attractive style.

Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
Eric Benet’s “Last Time.” When I was a trainee I would always listen to it as I walked back home late every night. I always thought it would be nice to have a girlfriend and make her listen to this song near Christmas time when the town is lit up.

NICHKHUN
Q. Do you like winter?
Although I like summer too, if I had to choose one over the other I would say I like cold weather more. Plus there’s the warm and happy Christmas.
Q. What is your warm memory of winter?
When I was 8 years old my family and I traveled to America and I saw snow for the first time in my life. Since I lived in Thailand at the time I had never seen snow. Everyone made snowmen together, had snowball fights, and rode sleds. I remember it was really fun.
Q. What is your cold memory of winter?
6 years ago when I was still a trainee at the company. The first snow of the year had fallen but I was all by myself and lonely so I called my father. I told him “I miss you.” Even now I often call my father when it snows. Since it doesn’t snow in Thailand where my dad is, I want to report it to him.
Q. What winter fashion for girls do you like?
I think girls who wear Mouton boots are cute. The style I probably like best is when leggings and a parka are paired with Mouton boots.
Q. Is there a memory you have of a loved one when it becomes winter?
When snow had piled up at Seoul Tower in Namsan, I went up it with a girl who I had an unrequited love with and I prepared a mug with hot chocolate in it. There were marshmallows floating in it. It didn’t work out with her in the end though…….

Q. How would you warm up the person you like if they were shivering?
I would take off my coat and put it over her while giving her a back hug (laugh).
Q. What song do you listen to most in winter?
Erin Benet’s “Last Time.” Like the wonderful lyrics that say “This is the last time I fall in love,” I want to have that kind of love as well. I once got stuck walking around the streets of Apgujeong by myself at Christmas and I listened to that mp3 the entire time. Even though it was about minus 10 degrees celsius, it warmed my soul.
